If you’re having an allergic reaction, the symptoms may be more severe. In severe cases, insect bites can cause anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction, that requires immediate medical attention and treatment with epinephrine, corticosteroids and
antihistamines.
Symptoms include dizziness, a sharp drop in blood pressure, loss of consciousness or cardiac arrest (sudden loss of heart function), usually within 5 to 30 minutes — sometimes up to an hour — of getting the bite.
